The iY generation is looking for ways to connect learning with current issues. As teachers, if we want to reach our students it is important that we make learning relevant. Students need to be engaged in learning and see the purpose of what they are learning. Better connections means better retention and transfer of knowledge to different subjects. In college, students will be faced with limited teaching styles. Many professors in college are not certified educators. They are professionals in a certain subject matter. Students need to learn in different ways so they can accommodate the teaching styles of their future teachers. Trial and error is an appealing method of learning because it is a personal learning experience. Students can see what they thought and see how their answers were incorrect or different. Through the process of trial and error, learning becomes personal to the student.
In Hebrews 1 it says that "Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways" (HCSB). This is certainly true in the case of Elijah. After Elijah sucessfuly killed the prophets of Baal he was discouraged by queen Jezebel. He ran away to mount Horeb. At mount Horeb God revealed Himself to Elijah. Before He revealed Himself, God used a visual illustration with Elijah. First, God had a great wind blow through the mountains, then God caused and earthquake, and a fire. Yet, through all these natural wonders God was not in them. God revealed Himself in a whisper. This was God using different means to make His message clear to Elijah. God's message was that He was always working even in the small whispers. God then showed Elijah 7,000 people who had not bowed their knees to Baal. Elijah was not alone.
